From a ‘Farmer’s Fridge’ to Your Table

With an inherent love for fruits and veggies, I have what some people may consider ‘lucky genes.’ A healthy meal is a hearty meal for me and I can effortlessly bypass the siren calls of fast-food chains. The good news is that you could join in on the fun too and quite easily seek refuge in a ‘Farmer’s Fridge.’

Some call the ‘Farmer’s Fridge’ a vending machine. It may operate like one, but the human touch that goes into every chef-driven menu makes it a registered restaurant; perhaps the smallest one in the US to date.

Leave the distracted masses. Join the focused few.

I finally got my hands on a book that came highly recommended from multiple sources — and I devoured it like a starving woman feasting on her first meal.

Here’s my take on it: Deep Work by Cal Newport isn’t for everyone.

There, I said it.

It’s a book that teaches you how to leave the distracted masses and join the focused few.

And if you’ve been wanting to make the leap from a dreamer to a doer, then this book is for you.

The good news is that there’s no time better than the quarantine and all the free…

I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.
- Albert Einstein

I hope you and your loved ones are doing okay. These are difficult times — for some more than others — and from the outset, nothing much will change over the next couple of weeks. Or even months.

Since you’re reading this, I’m assuming you’re one of the lucky ones.

You have met your survival needs, and now you want to know what to do with all the free time.

Let me tell you this; free time is rare. Life before the outbreak was a whirlwind for…

The Solar Cow Project (Source: YOLK Station)

A Simple Solution to Tackling 3 Pressing Social Issues

What if I told you that there’s a cow in a remote school in Kenya, milking electricity as an incentive for parents to sending their children to school?

It may sound like a scene out of a sci-fi movie. Only, the cow isn’t a real cow.

YOLK Station is a South Korean solar energy company. It’s run by one of the youngest female CEO’s in the world. They built the world’s smallest portable solar charger, the world’s thinnest and lightest solar charger — and now the Solar Cow.

Times named it one of the Best Innovations of 2019. CSE recognized…

From One College Kid to Another

90 percent of startups never see the light of day.

To put it into perspective, only 1 in 10 startups succeed.

One misstep and you could be off the game.

It may sound bizarre but that’s the risk you should be willing to take.

As a business student trying to apply what I’ve learnt in class to a real-life business, I can relate to your desperation. Technically, desperation is not a good feeling to have, but it could be the driving fuel for entrepreneurs — or so I’ve been told.

Here’s a bunch of things I’ve learnt so far and…

Governments in the world may have signed the Paris climate agreement and pledged to limit global warming to 1.5°C, but the grades in their climate report cards are distressing to say the least.

However, there’s good news coming in from the private sector. With six in every 10 Americans believing in climate change, and climate movements rising awareness across the globe, doing business as usual is becoming bad for corporate image.

By treating the greatest threat facing humanity as an opportunity in disguise, major companies are now competing to lead the climate battle. …

I Would Wish I didn’t

I will be turning 100 in 2096. That’s 77 years from now.

In 2096, our planet would still be a sphere, as blue as ever.

But everything on it would have changed. Including myself — with little to no hair, wrinkled skin, and a dozen of grandkids flocking at my feet.

While the mental image of little versions of my children is welcoming, there would be one universal change none of us welcomes — but eventually learn to live with. That change would (obviously) be none other than the massive and dramatic blow to our planet’s climate.

If I lived…

Indian Pollution Problem Goes Beyond Borders

I remember learning about Ganga Yamuna, the longest tributary in India. History wasn’t my favorite class, but for some reason, the strategic and cultural importance of Yamuna had stuck with me over the years.

But little was I prepared to learn the current state of the river that was once the lifeline of Indian civilization.

River Yamuna is dying — and it’s dying a dramatic death. The part of the river that flows through Delhi was proclaimed dead several years ago, with barely any oxygen left.

It’s worrisome for many reasons — the number one reason being the dwindling water…

And Global Penalties

We all know that the Paris Climate Agreement is soon becoming one of the biggest failures of our time.

None of the big polluters, despite their pledges and PR campaigns, are on track to keep global temperatures rising 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Crossing this threshold also means there’s no going back. We’ll be stuck in a screwed-up planet, waiting for Elon to colonize Mars.

But, just how bad is it really?

If not 1.5°C, then what’s the next possible target?

Given that there’s only a 0.5% chance of you being from The Gambia or Morocco, your country’s Paris report card…

You Already Are

We exist in a body that cannot quite see itself.

Except for a few occasional mirror reflections and selfies, we don’t really know how we look throughout the day.

Yet we spend an inordinate amount of time on our looks, trying to please everyone else, through a body we cannot see.

Is that how you want to spend the rest of your life? Trying to please others without really knowing who you are?

You don’t want to, but in the absence of self awareness, that’s exactly what most people end up doing.

We are wired to be truly happy with our true selves.

We, after all, spend all our lives with…
